Chautauqua County Divorce Records

Divorce cases heard at the local Supreme Court yield records that document the marriage termination process and detail asset division and support terms. The Chautauqua County Clerk is the custodian and dispenses requested records after making statutory redactions.

Perhaps surprisingly, N.Y. Dom. Rel. Law § 235(1) expressly prohibits the clerk of court from allowing anyone other than a party or their counsel to obtain or inspect pleadings, affidavits, findings, decrees, separation agreements, or other papers in a matrimonial proceeding. Only a court can order them disclosed to people who are not case participants.

Anyone can, however, apply to the court at the address below for a certificate of disposition as proof of a divorce judgment.
